No One Left Behind

Human Dignity vs. Scripture

A proposal was made at the United Nations that the Scriptures of every religion be revised; everything in them that leads to intolerance or cruelty should be deleted; everything that damages the dignity of human beings should be destroyed. When it was found that the author of the proposal was Jesus Christ, reporters rushed to his residence. His explanation was simple: "Scripture, like the Sabbath, is for human beings, not human beings for Scripture.

Pics I like...

Can you guess my two favorite cities?

Hello again...

While it's been quite some time......I hope anyone stumbling upon this post has been and remains well.

The reason I'm writing is that I have not been well. Maybe seeing it in print will prove therapeutic. Oh, my health is unchanged, but I honestly have descended to the depths of near despair. A sadness as thick as the fog in this picture has wrapped itself around my heart and no sunlight has been able to dispel the gloom.

I can't remember a time when I felt so little hope that things can change. I know, another "poor me" post, some may rightly think "maybe I'll go find some porn". I seriously wouldn't blame you! I guess this post is an act of confession to myself and anyone else who might pause long enough to say a prayer for a stranger.

Nothing short of re-inventing myself and my life seems adequate to the task of finding some semblance of hope once again. I've tried so many times, I'm not sure I have the strength or resolve to make another effort. Years and years of bad habits and self imposed solitude have left their mark.

So that's it for now......just this snapshot of my interior castle in ruins. I don't know if there'll be another post, but be sure that my wish for your happiness is sincere. I guess I do have some "thing" left.

Lonely sunset....

......a sunrise shared?

We can be disappointed.....

......or we can "get on" with what IS possible. There is great beauty in living life with a love undaunted by the disappointments and "let-downs" we are sure to encounter. The choice is ours......

Wasting human potential...

...all humankind looses. I am only comforted by the surety that people no matter how oppressed or disenfranchised still build lives of value and utter beauty. Their families and friends know the gift of their presence and repay them with love and devotion. This said, we must never tire of striving for that justice which will give everyone the chance to live their full potential.

Forgive us our debts?

Yes, according to theologian John Dominic Crossan. His thoughts on the Lord's Prayer are somewhat revolutionary, but speak loudly to a world plagued with such economic injustice. Just look at the US: do we remember the 1% and that we are the 99%? I like his term "enoughism" as the central idea of this prayer scripture says was given us by Jesus. Everyone on this planet deserves and is entitled to enough. The eternal Householder (his word for "father") demands in these words of Jesus that all be provided with enough needed to survive and live in peace. In the words of the worlds most famous prayer, greed and withholding that needed for all to live become the very definition of sin.
